EOC Refresher Training and Flood Table Top Exercise 23rd-25th July 2014
Emergency Services Table feeding injects to the EOC at the TTXDisaster preparedness took a a high profile in the Northern Division over three days in July beginning on Wednesday 23rd to Friday 25th. Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) refresher training was provided for senior government staff and other key stakeholders in disaster response and relief. This was followed by a table top exercise designed to provide an opportunity for those that attended the training as well as other stakeholders to begin to practise the skills that were taught and the processes required for an effective disaster response.
This disaster management-focused programme is a partnership between the NDMO, Commissioner Northern Division and a consortium of seven New Zealand-based non-government organisations, (NGO) who accessed funding from the New Zealand government aid programme. The group of NGO comprises Caritas, Christian World Service, Oxfam, Rotary, TEAR Fund, UNICEF and ADRA, who is the lead agency.
Mr. Uraia Rainima, Divisional Planning Officer Northern said “this is an extremely valuable programme to ensure the Northern Division is better prepared for any future disaster event, especially as we will face another cyclone season soon. Ultimately, we want to ensure people are safer and losses are significantly reduced.”
The training and exercise was conducted in the Commissioner Northern Conference room at the Macuata Building in Labasa.
