Take precautions with food and water
The Ministry of Health & Medical Services, Hon. Jone Usamate
continues to remind the public to ensure that necessary precautions are taken when dealing with food and water as the county faces electricity and water outages.
The Hon. Minister for Health & Medical Services Mr Jone Usamate said that frozen food items must be scrutinized properly before consummation and even purchase to avoid food related illnesses.
“The regulatory authorities will be closely monitoring supermarkets, eateries and other outlets over the week”.
Mr Usamate reiterated that all drinking and cooking water must be boiled particularly with possible water supply disruptions and flash flooding that could cause water contaminations.
Boiling water prior to consumption is important as this will decrease the chances of contracting water borne diseases.
( Typhoid, cholera, leptospirosis and hepatitis A).
Families are also advised to ensure that cooked food is properly covered and that food is stored safely. Leftover food that has been spoiled should be discarded and not consumed.
“It is also important to practice proper hygiene such as hand washing with soap and water after using the washroom and before handling food”, Mr Usamate added.
Meanwhile the Ministry of Health & Medical Services is reminding the public to take necessary precautions and preventive measures towards safe guarding their health.
