The Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Hon. Dr. Mahendra Reddy led a team of officials  and visited schools in Ra yesterday.
In continuing his visit to affected areas in the Western Division at Nasau District School and
Malake Village School, Dr. Reddy assessed the damages caused by the cyclone and at the same time encouraged teachers and students.
The visit was also an opportunity for the  teachers and students’ to share their traumatic stories with the team of education officials.
Although there were times when tears were shed, the victims remained strong and unwavered.
Minister Reddy was moved by the stories shared by the victims and offered words of encouragement and reassured these students and teachers
of government’s assistance.The Minister encouraged students and teachers to be strong and courageous during this period. He has also assured
them that the Ministry will assist them by providing bags, stationeries,
temporary teachers’ quarters and learning spaces for the resumption of classes.
The Minister acknowledged United Nations Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and other Donors fordonating teaching and learning resources to
affected teachers and students of Fiji.
