NDMO advises Fijians to take outlook seriously.

MEDIA RELEASE November 8, 2021.

Fiji is expected to have rainfalls that are above normal during the month of November this year, according to the Fiji Meteorological Services.

As the Fiji National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) works to help prepare Fijians across the country for this cyclone season, it is advising Fijians not to take the forecasted wet weather lightly.

“There has been consistent rainfall from the beginning of this month, and we should not take that lightly. Excessive rainfall can cause flooding where it can also kill people if they are not aware of it. It has taken people’s lives in the past and it can also do that in the future if we are not prepared. We must now put our guard up and prepare,” said Director NDMO Ms. Vasiti Soko.

Ms Soko also said with one to three tropical cyclones and one to two severe tropical cyclones forecasted, Fiji should now see beyond the destruction of Tropical Cyclone Winston in 2016 to and take the forecast seriously.

“We need to be prepared because we’ve seen firsthand the destruction past cyclones have left in its aftermath. We are asking all Fijians to prepare so now to avoid unnecessary loss when disaster happens.”

Fiji’s cyclone season ends in April next year.
